Giving Last.fm one Last.try
Yes, it’s a bad joke. Go jump in the lake if you don’t like it…
I’ve decided to give Last.fm one last go, and to my surprise, it does work rather well this time!
My user page is at http://www.last.fm/user/knightjetman/.
And yes, it does mean I’ve left MOG. It was good, but I didn’t like how it had to go through your entire collection before it started to work properly. Kudos to them for the painless account deletion process.

An online dilemma
Currently, I am using free hosting at Frihost.net, whom I do thank for graciously allowing me to host this blog for free, but lately it’s been giving me grief - namely because of some of the restrictions they’ve placed on what can and cannot be done on their servers.
This morning, I wanted to install the Friendfeed activity widget for Wordpress, thereby removing a few of the widgets I have on the right hand side of the page. Unfortunately for me, it requires the cURL functions of PHP5 to be enabled. Something Frihost will not allow at all, as they believe the cURL functions are likely to be abused and bring their servers down. Now, while that is a valid concern, most of us would like to get our pages working to the full extent of how we see fit.
So…that leads me to the big question - do I stay on a free service, or actually pay for webhosting. Now, Jumba’s personal packages sound perfectly priced to me, and they are Australian-based, so it’s keeping someone employed locally, which is always a good thing. $29.95 for 500MB and 5GB of traffic is what I’m aiming at, as I don’t think people are going to flock here in vast numbers.
Next dilemma - do I pay for the webhosting, or do I go the Knights v Roosters game this Sunday? I really want to get out of the house for a day and have a day to myself, but as most people are aware, it can be expensive (although, to my credit, I don’t think I spent more than $50 for the whole day the last time I went to a Knights game). Oh what to do, what to do!!!

DJPalmer.com is now 27% better…
…I think…
Just a brief note to say that the installation of Wordpress here has been upgrade to 2.5.1, and that Askimet has also been upgraded for your protection.
Plus I think Twitter Tools might be working again…fingers crossed!

My blog now goes to Twitter
For those who follow me on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/bigdan1985), you can now keep track of my blog posts using Twitter as well, thanks to Twitterfeed.
Oh, and you are more than welcome to follow me on Twitter.

Could things be back to normal for DJPalmer.com?
Well, I’ve updated the Wordpress installation to the new release (version 2.5, go get it from Wordpress.org), and so far I’m impressed with the new dashboard (they should release it as a proper design), and even more, Frihost has fixed up their server, so I can use Aksimet and Twitter Tools again. I now have a triple threat against spam, and I can let my Twitter posts flourish again!
Now to fix up the sidebar widgets and all is back to normal. Here’s hoping!

I give up!
Seriously, I’m giving up on trying to fix Wordpress.
I have been trying for ages to get various widgets and tools to work properly with various later versions, but to no avail. Wordpress’s official website is about as much use as Mario Jardel was to the Jets (hehe…not that it mattered in the end), and my webhost isn’t much help either.
But since I can blog with it, it’ll do for now. I’ve put you guys through enough pain watching me delete and start blogs over and over again. The theme is fine, the widgets that do work are going OK, and I’ll put links to everything else I used to have as a widget on the side.

I’m back, yet again!
Well, I’m giving Wordpress another go…but this time, instead of using Aksimet, I’m using a combo of Spam Karma 2 and Bad Behaviour. Here’s hoping…
