Blood on the boobtube (WARNING: Very violent)

Folks, what I am about to show you really did happen. What you will see is extremely graphic and horrifying. You should be over the age of eighteen and be prepared to see a lot of blood. This post is voluntarily rated R18+ for that reason. Now…onto the main point of the post…

I found this gory yet fascinating gem of television history online today. It comes from Philadelphia’s WPVI-6 (we think), and it’s the January 22 1987 suicide of former Philadelphia treasurer Budd Dwyer. Some stations freeze framed it and allowed the audio to continue, WPVI let it run, and I think this is where the footage comes from. Not for the faint of the heart. Watch the video by clicking below. Paul pisses off…or does he?

McCains last rival drops White House bid (from ABC News)

Now the Internet can get back to normal…although I don’t like the idea of his ongoing campaign for liberty. Sounds like his supporters’ last desperate ploy to remain a pain in the arse.

He was no hope of getting the Republican nomination. When you can count delegates only in double digits, you have a huge battle in front of you.

Folks - can I give you a hint? The future for the freedom of the Internet should not rest with someone who is likely to die within the next decade. Try a 30-40 year old, rather an a 72 year old who should be close to retirement.

Ronald’s coming to Scone

Scone McDonalds (from Hunter Valley Newsroom/2NM 981)

They’ve been talking about getting a McDonalds in Scone for years now, and finally it’s happening.

It will be on the outskirts of town though, so it will more than likely aim for the travellers (as will the Red Rooster and petrol station) rather than townsfolk I’d imagine. At least it’ll bring more jobs into the town, so that can only be a good thing.

From Kings to paupers

Kings kicked out of NBL (from ABC News)

You know your league is in the s*** when a grand finalist is booted out of the competition for failing to pay players. It’s a sad state of affairs when even the naming rights sponsor and main broadcaster are looking likely to pull out.

I think it’s time for a major revamp of the NBL. As much as shutting down the league is a potential option,
given there are clubs going well off the court, it’d hurt them a lot. The timing could be improved a little, as to minimise the clashes between the end of the footy seasons and the start of the A-League. Also, a better broadcast deal and improved promotion would help as well.

Finally, pull the plug on Singapore and concentrate on Australia and New Zealand. Have it so the only areas that can get a license in the future are a 2nd Sydney license, Brisbane (if the Bullets lose their license), Newcastle (I’m biased), Canberra and Hobart. Otherwise, no more licenses.

Like football before it, the grass roots are fine, just the pointy professional end is buggered. It needs the right people to put it in forward direction.

Tim Webster’s final Ten News

Ten News Sydney (relayed across New South Wales via Southern Cross Ten) said goodbye to sports presenter Tim Webster during tonight’s bulletin. Tim’s off to concentrate on his afternoon radio program on Sydney’s 2UE, but I believe he’s doing relief work at Ten, so he’s not gone completely.

Anyway, I did record it for the people over at MediaSpy, and I’ve uploaded it here in all its glory. Mind you, it’s a big file, as I also got Angela’s tribute to Tim during her last weather segment (that twerp Tim Bailey is back on Monday…just our luck). Enjoy!

Could we be getting…Goosebumps?

Goosebumps movie in the works (from ABC News)

Excellent news for today’s kiddies! Goosebumps were wonderful books back in my day and it’s good to see Columbia picking up this project. If only I were 11 years old again…

Local KFC found guilty of breaching the Food Act

Muswellbrook fast food store sorry for Food Act breach (from ABC News)

That’s the nearest KFC to Scone! I can’t believe the KFC store I go to the most (which isn’t much) was found guilty of breaching the Food Act. I hope they’ll clean up their act in the future.

Woman sacked for shutting up toddler

Woman sacked for giving 16-cent treat to toddler (from ABC News)

What’s sixteen cents to a multi-million dollar company? It got the kid to shut up, which can only be good for the atmosphere and customers’ moods at the store, and leads to more sales, hence more profit. Or something like that.

At least the company realised it made a mistake and rehired the employee.
