Philippines gets its own Playboy - hold the nudes

Nudity-free Playboy to debut in Philippines (from ABC News)

Why bother? What’s a Playboy magazine without the nudes? :P

Ponder this - the future of downloading TV shows online - to pay or cop the ads?

Here’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, especially since I posted this to The Spy Report today - CBC to distribute show via BitTorrent.

While some broadcasters are happy to offer shows free of charge online, which is fair enough, what if they wanted to put ads in their shows? Say they put the ads at the start, middle and end of the file.

Or what if they wanted you to pay, say, $1 or $2 for a non-DRM file, in high resolution and in any format you wanted, minus the ads.

What would you do? I cannot see them sitting on their hands about this for much longer.

What are your thoughts? I’d love to know…

1-Up! - The Mint gets the arse

Mario 1Ups Princess TV Tonight are reporting that the bane of Australian television, The Mint, has been given the arse by the Nine Network.

About bloody time too! You know you have an out and out dud on your hands when your major affiliate (WIN) drops it, people are complaining left, right and centre about A ) the show, B ) your puzzles and C ) your dodgy practices. They’re replacing it with movies and other shows. Let this be a warning to everyone else.

Oh, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about when I’m “1-Upping”, basically it’s a good thing, and I’m giving it a plug - hence, a one-up. Plus I wanted to use the Mario 1-Upping Peach animation somewhere…so this was perfect.

Also - thanks Frankster!

ABC relaunches local radio websites

As I’ve reported over at The Spy Report

ABC Local Radio has relaunched their network of station websites this morning. Formerly known as The Backyard, the network is now known as ABC Local. While the websites have only just been relaunched this morning, with many not fully operational, such as 1233 ABC Newcastle’s webpage, an idea of what content will feature on the websites has already been discovered.

An example of such is featured in this post, with ABC Upper Hunter’s website already partially functional. This example features a full program schedule, a RSS feed of Upper Hunter news headlines, as well as presenter photos and biographies.

The main regional site (see second image) contains feature stories, news headlines, links to other sites in the ABC network, and a rotating header with local images (such as the Campbells Corner building in Scone demonstrated in the second screen shot).

The conversion to the new website should be completed within the next twenty four hours.

MediaSpy discussion: ABC.net.au

Here’s the Upper Hunter website below.

The colours aren’t too bad, loving the new RSS feed of just Upper Hunter stories, instead of combining the two newsrooms in Muswellbrook and Newcastle.

To check them out for yourself, go to abc.net.au/local, and or the ABC Upper Hunter site, go abc.net.au/upperhunter/radio.
